Januray 24, 2011:
  Corrected and turned in 4.2.  Began discussion on Partial Fractions.

Januray 26, 2011:
  .Book Clubs:  Broke into groups and continued working on partial fractions HW and extra credit problems.

January 28, 2011: 
Starter: p. 370: "Warm-up" 1-10 odds. Corrected partial fractions assignment.  In Book Club groups, discovered and synthesized the four basic conic sections (not degenrates) using modeling clay to sculpt and manipulate a napped (double) cone. Turned in guided activity sheet. 
HW: Read section 4.4 and write down at least 5 new terms in your notes.

February 1, 2011:
  Stamped last times HW. (Will turn in with notes.) Notes and lecture on 4.4 focusing on parabolas.

February 3, 2011:
  4.4 again.  This time go through and ellipses.

February 7, 2011:

February 9, 2011:
  Correct and turn in Review HW.  This was a review day of Chapter 4: answered questions from review assignment, did examples of partial fractions, sketching graphs of rational functions.

February 11, 2011:  MID-TERMS!! + Chapter 4 TEST!!! + ALL Chapter 4 notes and starters are due.  = Action-packed day!  ALL CHAPTER 4 LATE WORK DUE today  as well. 
Students who have missed exam MUST have an excused absence for this date; otherwise there is no opportunity to take this exam.  Students who stand up teacher after making arrangements to take exam forfeit opportunity to take exam at all. 

February 15, 2011:  Exponential Functions and their graphs (5.1)  Starter was warm-up exercises p. 402: 1-9 odd (to do in notes).

February 17, 2011: 
Corrected and turned in assignment 5.1.  Starter was warm-up exercises p. 413: 1-6 and we voted, submitted our nominations for Junior Prom Royalty.  Back to business with discussion on logarithmic functions as they are inverses to exponential functions.  Practiced composing these inverse functions (i.e. converting from logarithm form to exponential form) to evaluate expressions. 
HW:  assignment 5.2: p. 413: 3-30, x3's; 41, 45-55, 69, 72   DUE 2/23/11

February 23, 2011:
Starter: p. 421: 1-10 (in notes). Corrected & turned in 5.2 assignment.  Covered special properties of logarithms. (Sections 5.3)
HW 5.3: p. 421: 1-38, 42-60 even

February 25, 2011:
  Starter: p. 431: 1-10 (in notes). Correct and turn in assignment 5.3.  Using the fact that logarithm and exponential functions are inverses of each other, solved equations using exponents to 'undo' logs and vice versa.  Also applied solving methods to the continuously compounded interest formula. 
HW 5.4: p. 431: 12-46 even, 81-82

Group Project: Cookie Monsters got together to get a start on group activity on p. 430 in text.  Expected to come back with some graphs completed.  Will be given 20 minutes to finish in groups during class on Tuesday, March 1.   Each person is required to turn in their own worksheet.

March 1, 2011:
Starter.  Answer questions for assignment 5.4, more discussion on group projects. Time for group projects.
HW:  Re-assigned assignment 5.4 and group project.  Both due 3/3/11 

March 3, 2011:
  Starter in your notes: p. 442: 1-10 evens. (Did odds last time).  Today: exponential growth and decay.  Announcement: Test next Friday.  (Reviewing Monday and Wednesday of next week.)  Reminder: All late/re-do work due day of test.
HW: Assignment 5.5: p. 443: 1-6, 7-13 odds, 15-17, 35-38, 45-46. 

March 7, 2011:  Starter in notes: p. 449: 1-6 (must include picture of corresponding graph). Correct and turn in assignment 5.5.   
HW:  Review:  p. 449: 19-22, 31-52, 51-62, 73, 74   DUE 3/9/11

March 9, 2011:
  No starter today.  Old test on logarithms as a reivew--great questions asked in class!  Made our own 'Math Books' of acceptable notes to use on logs test.  (I will provide financial formulas for any corresponding problems.)  Folded math book had 6 pages--used them to list an example of each of the following: 
p. 1:  Power Property of logs, p. 2: Quotient Property of logs, p. 3: Product property of logs, p. 4: Definition of logs (switching from exponential to logarithmic form), p. 5: special properties,  . 6:  Change of Base Formula.
REMINDER:  ALL Chapter 5 missing work is due on Friday, along with Chapter 5 notes.  (See above for starters, etc.)

March 17, 2011:
  Starter: p. 463: 2-10, evens.  Correct and turn in assignment 6.1 (a).  More lecture on angles measures--Arc lengths, angular speed, and speed of a particle.

Monday, March 28:
  Starter: solving right triangles with a hypotenuse of 1.  Correct, turn in assignment 6.2.  Introduced, began filling out unit circle as class. 
HW:  Completely fill out unit circle by indicating all central angles (in radians and degrees) and evaluating all six trig functions for each.  (Space for sine, cosine, tangent on hand-out; please list csc, sec, and cot of angles on back of sheet or seperate piece of paper. 
DUE 3/30

Wednesday, March 30
:  Check off completed unit circle (example) with sub (10 pts).  First unit circle quiz: First quadrant only.  (If every students gets 100% by next Thursday's Quiz, Ms. Ferrara will bring donuts for entire class on Monday, April 11!)  Read notes left and complete assignment 6.3 as indicated in notes packet. 

Friday, April 1:  Correct, turn in assignment 6.3: p. 488: 9-22 all, 36-51 x3's, 63-68.  Unit Circle Quiz #2.  (Quadrants I, II only).  Per stupid bet (on Teacher's part) with Mark, assignment p. 489: 95-100 is extra credit, but absolutely on due Monday (no late work for these freebie points).   In-class project/assignment points: Sine and Cosine Waves with pipe cleaner. (out of 10 points based on accuracy, completion, using time wisely.)

Tuesday, April 5:  Unit Circle Quiz #3. Correct extra credit assignment (enough of you did it!)  Debrief on Cosine, Sine waves.  Began sketching graphs utilizing knowledge of amplitude and period.  Also labeled, checked books in with library.  Thanks to those who came prepared today; let's get the rest of you caught up next class.  HW: 6.4(a) p. 500: 1-26

Thursday, April 7: Unit circle Quiz #4: All or nothing! :)  Let's all get 100% so we can have doughnuts!  Continue looking at translating sine/cosine waves, more specifically: phase shift, horizontal/vertical translations. Added to assignment 6.4: p. 500: 1-26, 31-38.  
Quiz on Monday covering sections 6.1-6.4.  Study Guide:  p. 546: 1-7, 9, 11-13.  Also, due Monday, April 11.

Monday, April 11:  Correct and turn in assignment 6.4 & "Study Guide".  Take Quiz.  No new HW assigned; ALL missing work thus far in term absolutely due Wednesday, April 13. 

Wednesday, April 13:
  Section 6.5: Sketching graphs of tangent and cotangent functions.  p. 513: 9-12, 22, 24, 25, 30, 31-40.  *Remember put calculator mode into RADIANS when graphing trig functions.

Friday, April 15:  Section 6.5, again.  Chapter 6 notebook check due.  Please have organized and ready to show Ms. Ferrara during homework time in class.  Today is assembly schedule, so preparation will be very helpful with our shortened time.  HW: 6.5 (csc, sec): p. 512: 1-8, 13, 16, 18, 19, 26, 29, 49, 51-54, 63-66, 71  absolutely due 4/26/11.
